How to travel to the base of Mt. Wakakusa

From Kintetsu-Nara Station

– By Bus
Take the Nara- Kotsu loop line bus from the No. 1 bus shelter in front of the northwest exit of Kintetsu-Nara station, and get off at ‘Daibustuden Kasugataisha-mae, for the Great Buddha Hall and Kasugataisha Shrine, about 5 minutes journey. It is around 15 minutes walk from the bus stop. to the base trails of the mountain.

Take the Nara-Kotsu bus bound for ‘Kasugataish-honden’ from the No. 1 bus shelter in front of the northwest exit of Kintetsu -Nara station. Get off at the last bus stop. a journey of about- 8-10 minutes. It is then about 5-minutes walk from the bus stop. to the base trail of the mountain. * The last bus departs from Kintetsu -Nara station at 17:03.

Take “the ‘Gurutto Bus’ Nara Park route. Please note, services only run on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. It is a short walk from the stop to the base of Mt. Wakakusa.

* On the day of Mt. Wakakusa Yamayaki festival, the last bus departs from the station at 15:27.

From JR Nara station

– By Bus

Take the Nara-Kotsu loop line bus from the No. 2 bus shelter in front of the East Exit of JR Nara station, and get off at “Daibustuden Kasugataisha-mae’ for the Great Buddha Hall and Kasugataisha Shrine, about 8 minutes, journey. It is about- 15 minutes walk from the bus stop. to the base trails of the mountain.

Take the Nara- Kotsu bus bound for ‘Kasugataish-honden’ from the No. 2 bus stop in front of the East Exit of JR Nara station, and get off at the last stop, a journey of about 13 minutes. It is then about- 5 minutes walk from the bus stop.

* The last bus departs from JR Nara station at 16:58.

Take the ‘Gurutto Bus’ Nara Park route from the West Exit of JR Nara station. Please note, services only run on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. It is a short walk from the stop to the base of Mt. Wakakusa.

* On the day of Mt. Wakakusa Yamayaki festival, the last bus departs from the station at 15:20.

40 minutes to the east of JR Nara Station.

By car, motorbike and bicycle

Drive 9km from the Tenri Interchange of Nishi-Meihan Expressway a journey time of about 30 minutes.

Drive 5km from the Horai Interchange of Daini-Hanna Toll Road, a journey time of about 30 minutes.

On the day of Mt. Wakakusa Yamayaki festival, traffic restrictions are imposed on the roads around Mt. Wakakusa.

Due to the expected high level of road congestion during the festival day, please use public transportation whenever possible.

There are no free visitors’ parking lots, but there are several paid prefectural parking lots in the area.

Private paid -parking lots with larger capacity are also available near to JR Nara station.

– By Bicyclebicycle
There are no bicycle parking lots available near Mt. Wakakusa, so please use the bicycle parking lot in Ukigumoenchi Park.

Please do not ride bicycles when traffic restrictions are imposed, in the area.
