It is thought that two pagoda towers as high as 100 meters soared to the east and west sides of Todaiji Temple’s Great Buddha Hall at the beginning of the Nara period. In the Kamakura and Muromachi periods, the pagodas were burnt down during wars, though the podiums of the towers are currently maintained on the site.
The former site of the eastern pagoda. Imagine them while viewing cherry blossoms in springtime, or the yellow leaves of ginkgo trees during fall.
